Symbian signed ask the impossible
It’s been an ongoing nightmare as you may know, but we’ve got some further feedback from Symbian Signed via MphasiS testing house:
“Finally, we have got the feedback from Symbian Signed team.
As manufacture (Nokia) required any applications that cause actions such as
billable events etc, whether they are c++ applications or flash should all
be treated the same. They should be subject to all test cases.
Only submissions that do not exercise any of these events or do not contain
any executables can be classed as passive content.
Thus, we do think the privacy statement is required for your application.
Please feel free to contact us, if you would like to modify and resubmit a
new version for testing. We will reject the current submission without
charge.
Thanks. We are looking forward to your reply.”
Without persistent data, how can a Flash Lite 1.1 application know whether the the application has been run previously, or in fact allow the user to select a check box to ‘never show this message again’?

Hi,
It seems that it’s sufficient to display the privacy statement in the installation phase. Reuters’ Enhanced Mobile Service (http://labs.reuters.com/enhancedmobile/default.aspx) does this, and also we got our FlashLite application with simple Symbian wrapper FINALLY signed. Just add this line to your .pkg file:
“..\sis\PrivacyStatement.txt” -”", FILETEXT, TEXTABORT
FILETEXT declaration displays the contents of a text file, and TEXTABORT option creates Ok/Cancel dialogue for the user either to continue or to abort the installation.

This is fantastic news, I’ve had to shelve the whole signing process for the time being whilst I concentrate on Mobisite development. But if what you’re saying is right (and there’s no reason why it shouldn’t be) then I’ll give this a whirl soon.
Congratulations on getting through the signing process, you’re app looks very tidy though unfortunately I don’t have a compatible device.
Thanks again
Gareth

Oops, just to make sure: I don’t have anything to do with Reuters’ application, just using it as an example. I’ve been working on different FlashLite app, and got it signed this morning. First time I submitted it, it got rejected because of missing privacy statement.

No probs.
Can you show your app?
So did you go through the active content route?
And which testing house did you go through?
cheers

Sorry, the application is not yet available, but here’s some information about it: http://demo.foreca.com/mobileflash/
We used NSTL, and had to go through the normal signing process, since the installation package includes a small Symbian wrapper application (quite like the one you described in the SWF3SIS blog entry).
